Day 18: Adults

 Washing our hearts

“Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7 NIV).

While shopping recently I, for some unknown reason, paid close attention to all the various varieties of laundry detergents and stain removers.  Then, I moved on to the body soaps in different shapes, some round, others rectangular.  Next were all kinds of liquid body cleansers in various colors from clear to pastel shades, each wearing labels to describe its scents.  In the US, what a market we have for products to clean our clothes and ourselves!  We try not to appear embarrassingly dingy, especially at church.

Think about what God told Samuel.  The Lord does not look at things as humankind looks.  Persons look at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at our heart (1 Samuel 16:7).  What kind of grime must be removed?  The Hebrew work “hyssop” is a plant used to sprinkle water or blood for religious cleansing.  We have the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ free for the asking.  We need pure hearts (Matthew 5:8) to see God working in us, in our church, and in Shelby.

Prayer:

“I pray for revival Lord, and may it begin with me.”
