Celebrating God’s Leadership!!
In May of 2014, God gave First Baptist Church Shelby a 10-year vision which we have called Our Future Story. It is our conviction that God is pulling our congregation into this Future Story as we live out the mission of our church to be followers of Jesus Christ called to COMMUNITY through which we show the Savior’s COMPASSION to all people as we equip each other for faithful SERVICE in Shelby and around the world.
We, as a body of believers, have been faithful to advance toward the calling God has given us these first seven years as we have focused on the six main parts of our Future Story which are:
We have been creating a welcome culture by building a welcome center, organizing a welcome desk, communication via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Website, Mail Chimp, Blog, and logo dispersion.
We are growing an effective children and family ministry by expanding the role of part-time children’s pastor to full-time, consolidation and redecoration of children’s ministry space, refocus for children on Wednesdays and Sunday mornings along with year-round ministry engagement, the creation of a new youth center.
We are bringing focus upon spiritual formation by celebrating the testimonies of our members as lives are changed and hearts are formed in the way of Jesus and by moving toward a Connections Pastor position. Our new Lead Pastor is leading us in the development of discipleship processes with formation as our goal.
We continue to encourage worship of varied styles and focus by upgrading our sanctuary facilities in keeping with our historic architectural style while enhancing our sound and light capabilities, opening up our choir loft and platform, refurbishing our organ and adding projection capability and engaging a search for full-time Worship Arts Pastor and a Leading Edge Band Leader after modeling a “leading edge” service for the congregation.
We are reaching to a lost and dying world through evangelism by training our members in sharing their spiritual story, by highlighting the need for sharing our faith with our neighbors who do not affiliate with a church, by laying plans for a worship service directed toward unchurched folks, and by beginning a search for a Lead Pastor who will refresh our engagement with our community.
And, we have enhanced our technological reach by a new website, the launch of a new brand with logo and signage, the calling of a part-time audio specialist, faster access to worship recordings via the internet, use of interior digital signage and WIFI in all our buildings. During the months of pandemic (2020-2021) we began broadcasting worship via Facebook LIVE.
