(A look inside the history of #NYCTreeGirls)
It all began four years ago. Both of our sons played bass in the Shelby Middle School orchestra. The opportunity arose that I would introduce myself to Carol Ann Hoard. We had many of the same friends but had never actually met before. We hit it off immediately, and I discovered she had helped to counsel students after the death of our son, Tripp, in 2012, and I never knew it. I also found out that she loved the TODAY show!
Fast forward three years from the time we met. Carol Ann’s father
had recently passed away, and Christmas, which was once a joyful
season for me, had become a time of memories and sadness. I think
many folks can relate. Carol Ann suggested we go to New York City
to the Rockefeller Center tree lighting. She had been once before;
however, I had never been. The catch? She wanted to dress as
Christmas trees!
“I’m going to New York? Dressed as a tree? And leave my family on what would be our son’s 21st birthday?” My family immediately said, “Yes, go Tisha!”
And so the #NYCTreeGirls we’re born.
As we walked around the city dressed in festive tree costumes, we
saw grouchy faces turn into smiles. We repeatedly heard, “You’ve made my day.” The season that had been one of darkness and dread turned into one of absolute joy!
I do believe God puts others in our path when He sees it necessary.
When Carol Ann came into mine, I had no idea how much her
laughter, silly antics, thoughtfulness and child-like spirit would be
just what I needed. During this holiday season I am thankful for
God’s blessing of friendship. We are all fortunate beings who have
the opportunity to have friends, but also be a friend to others when
they need us the most.
I love both you girls! Last week you brought many smiles and so much joy into my life! Thank you for all you do to spread the love of Christ throughout this Christmas season!!!!
Sweetest tribute! You are both inspirational woman and bring such an impact on others. The ministry that you two do together, without even knowing it is so beautiful and sweet. You two touch so many people and know how make people happy. God put you two together for sure. Tisha, our trusting Lord knew you needed someone extra special to help you start to heal and Carol Ann needed you. I love you both and feel so lucky to know you both.
And now you should blog on a regular basis! You are an inspiration even through your pain. You bring so much joy to others and I pray you find comfort and reciprocation in all the love you share with us!
God broke the mold when he made Mrs. Tisha❤️
Carol Ann was there for Ashleigh and her friends during that dark time in 2012. Carol Ann helped Ashleigh through so she could be there for you and Ashley Harris. She was terrific then.
We love watching this crazy friendship of yours and Carol Ann develop. My sister who lives in SC saw you on TV last year and immediately called and asked if I knew the crazy ladies(spoken affectionately) on the Today show. Well yes I did. This year she tuned in just to see all you two were up to. You two brightened the world all over with your trip.
Very Special! I was three weeks post hysterectomy with a terrible sinus infection when your NYC adventures started this year. I had watched all the Hallmark movies available. I was alone during the day with the kids at school and Matt at work. Your live videos gave me something to look forward to each day. I laughed, held my tummy and coughed. I even started a little Christmas shopping via the Steals and Deals episode, including some Omaha Steaks!? We don’t always know what our friends need, but you gave me just what I needed last week. I love you Tisha!
So awesome.
Oh my! What can i say that I haven’t already? You girls rock!❤ and I love you both! (Loved watching you enjoy the hats!) Merry Christmas!
What a ministry!!…a merry heart does like medicine.
Love this story! I was fortunate enough to happen to see you all on the Today Show that morning! Awesome! What a blessing you both are! Brenda Curtis
