Who’s the Juggler?

Day 15– September 5, 2018

By Bob Bass

I used to be a pretty good juggler. There was really only one trick I wanted to do but never quite accomplished– that was to juggle five balls, throw all five at least once and catch all five. There are two hard parts to juggling five balls. The first is to get started, getting all five thrown into the air at the same time. Only a few times did I manage to accomplish that. The other hard part is finishing. It gets increasingly hard to catch more balls as your hands start getting full of the already-caught-balls. Alas, I never got there! I always dropped at least one!

In case you are starting to wonder: 1) No, I am not calling juggling a spiritual gift, 2) I am not saying you have to be “juggling” the Christian life. What then is my point?  When someone is juggling, the audience is watching the balls. Most of the time the balls are unified into a fixed pattern. A “trick” is when one or more of the balls are put out of the usual pattern into an exceptional role. So, this is my thinking – In the Christian life we are called to be like the balls. Sometimes we are going through a pretty routine pattern and sometimes we are put into an exceptional role.  But either way, The Spirit is the Juggler. He makes it all happen. And He doesn’t drop the ball!

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.   Philippians 2:13

The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”  I Thessalonians 5:24

Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  Philippians 1:6
