Day 6: Adults

Words and Actions

“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?  Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:17-18  NIV).

Words, words, words!  How we show our love, confidence, indifference, fear, concern, etc.  Words can be the most defining method of communications in the world or only clues to what we may be thinking.  Notice that when we speak, the listener is using all the other senses to determine what we really mean.

How easy it is to say “I will pray for you” and never give the request another thought.  But none of us would want to face surgery, loss of a family member, a difficult career decision, etc. without the prayer support of fellow Christians.

John comes with an uncomfortable reminder that prayer should be accompanied by action.  Maybe it is not so spiritual if I pray for our revival and make no plans to attend or support the spirit of revival.  My place will be in the pew on those few nights.

Prayer: “Father, grant me the willingness to support my words with action.”  Amen.
