My Wallpaper

Day 10– August 31, 2018

By Michelle Moser

The verses you see below are what I kept as a wallpaper on my computer and phone when I was on hospital bedrest the month before my twins were born last year, and they stayed there for the remainder of our five month NICU stay. Through the many ups and downs of the roller coaster my family experienced during this time, I needed a constant reminder for what to do with all of my fear. I was a bundle of nerves and worry for the safety and health of my twin girls, and I had no control over anything. We didn’t know what was going to happen the next day or even hour, and more than ever I had to learn to take things one day at a time and place my anxiety in God’s hands. It wasn’t an easy thing to do.

Fear and worry are powerful things, but the Bible tells us that God understands and wants to carry our burdens and comfort us in our time of need. When I turned my worrying thoughts into a conversation with God, it was then I experienced a peace that passed my earthly understanding.

But being human, I quickly needed reminding as soon as another worry or concern popped up. I had to train myself to keep an ongoing conversation with God to help me through those trying times and have the eternal perspective Paul writes about, and give thanks for what is good.

Thankfully we have come a long way in the past 20 months. I have two healthy girls who show very little signs from their hard beginning, but the worries don’t stop. As a new mom, it is easy to slip into a state of fear about whether or not I’m making the right choices for them. I can also let unwarranted guilt and comparisons infiltrate my mind and overtake my thoughts. It is now that I need another reminder to cast my cares on God (1 Peter 5:7) and continually invite Him into my internal conversation so my eyes are fixed on things above (Colossians 3:2).

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:1618
