It’s a quarter til five this morning and I have not looked at the news to see the outcome of our national election. Like everyone in the country, including the candidates no doubt, I have grown weary of such a long and distressing campaign season. The neck and neck reporting from the polls last night drew me in, but then I fell asleep watching before 10 PM, so I went to bed.

On my way to bed, wondering who would be the next President, I prayed again for our nation and I prayed thankful for God’s presence on election night. His presence last night declared to my spirit a promise, viz. God is able for what will happen next for our country, we can count on Him. Many have given up on our nation. They say that if candidate A wins we have lost hope for “these” reasons and if candidate B wins we have lost hope for “those” reasons. But, no! Regardless of what I am about to find out in a moment, the truth is God is able for our country even for the days after this historic election.

The Scripture declares this wonderful promise in so many ways:

Dan. 3:17: “The God we serve is ABLE to deliver us from the blazing furnace.”

2 Cor. 9:8: “God is ABLE to bless you abundantly so that you will abound in every good work.”

Heb. 7:25: “He is ABLE to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Heb. 2:18: “He is ABLE to help those who are tested in every way.”

2 Tim. 1:12: “I know whom I have believed and I am convinced he is ABLE to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.”

Eph. 3:20: “Now to him who is ABLE to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine……”

Yes, that means God is ABLE to do more than even the content of our prayers leading up to yesterday’s election.

He was able when I went to bed last night, and I know he will be able today, regardless of what the news is this morning. So, for whomever you voted yesterday, and for whatever the tone of the discussion today, and for all that it will take for a new President to soon reside in the White House, God is able, and that is Good News today!

It’s 4:45 AM, the day after the election, and I know the One I can trust with our future as the Twitter feed opens up and the election results come rolling into view.

Here goes…..
