Day 9: Adults

A lasting influence

“But Ruth replied ‘Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.  Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people and your God will be my God’” (Ruth 1:16  NIV).

Just as Ruth showed loyalty and devotion to Naomi, her mother-in-law, we should show loyalty and devotion to God, our family, friends, and the stranger who may need a helping hand.  Devotion to God could include asking someone to attend our revival.  Inviting someone to worship service or Sunday School demonstrates our faith and our belief that the way to God is through Jesus.

Ruth’s devotion to Naomi led her to forsake the social customs of that time.  She accepted Naomi’s beliefs in God as a guide for her life.  This required her to leave her homeland and family.

God richly rewarded Naomi and Ruth.  Lives were changed by Ruth’s devotion to Naomi.  Ruth became the wife of Boaz and the mother of Obed.  Obed was the father of Jesse, the father of David.  Note that David is listed in the genealogy of Jesus found in Matthew 1.

Prayer:

“During this time of revival, give me the ability to cast aside timidness and inhibitions and simply ask others to worship and learn with us.”  Amen.
