Day 5: Preschoolers

 Wow, God!

“Then Jesus called the children over to him and said to the disciples, ‘Let the little children come to me!  Never send them away!  For the Kingdom of God belongs to men who have hearts as trusting as these little children’s.  And anyone who doesn’t have their kind of faith will never get within the Kingdom’s gates’” (Luke 18:16-17 Living Bible).

There’s no sweeter place to find God than in the faces of little children!  We can learn so much from them.  At Vacation Bible School this year, the theme was Makes Fun Factory– Created by God: Built for a Purpose.  Working in the “nursery” with the children of the VBS workers, I originally thought I was “JUST BABYSITTING” for these tiny tots who surely were too young to learn anything about God yet.  God quickly showed me how wrong I was!  As we strolled around the court square we asked these precious children to look for things God “made”…They pointed out the trees, the grass, a dog, people, etc.  Then we would prompt them by calling out… “And WHAT do WE say?”  They loved shouting out “WOW, GOD!”

Several weeks later we began “Wacky Wednesdays” for 2-5 year olds.  On the first Wednesday, Miss Missy taught about the days of creation.  “And at the end of those days, what did God say? ‘It was good!’”  So, we started out on a trek around the court square looking for things God had created.  When they “found” something, Miss Missy would ask…”And what do we say?”  When she prompted them with “It is good!”…one of the little ones who attended VBS, said… “No, that’s wrong.  We’re supposed to say…’WOW, GOD!’”

Prayer:

“Father God…Help us to have trusting hearts and the type of faith that belongs to little children.  Our desire is to be welcomed into your kingdom gates someday while shouting…”WOW, GOD!” with the love and enthusiasm of a child!”  Amen.
